November 29th 2023. Today I met up with club members Dave Arnold and Paul Scott, we met up at the jiffy grill in Odessa ON for breakfast and to discuss the day’s plan of detecting.

Dave Arnold and Paul Scott.

After gaining permission for a site in Camden E Ontario from one of the waitresses at the jiffy grill, it was decided that Dave Paul and myself would instead stay in Odessa and go door knocking to try and gain a permission locally.

Dave had an idea of looking at an old 1800s Atlas which shows old buildings in the area from the late 1800s. After breakfast the three of us drove to a property adjacent to the Odessa river to try our luck that door knocking and gaining permission. After talking with the homeowner permission was granted and the days detecting Activities began.

Within the first 10 minutes of detecting the property Dave Arnold had a strong signal on his equinox 800 he called Paul and I over to his location so we could witness while he revealed is find. After opening up a small plug in the ground Dave revealed and 1838 USA large send. After this find we all had high hopes for the property moving forward. After about the first our all three of us had uncovered multiple modern coins ranging from 1930s to 1960s plus a few odds and ends and by the end of the day that old 1830s US large send was the best find of the day.

Paul did get a small gold coloured medallion triangular in shape with a man on a horse and two flat and pennies from the Toronto zoo. I ended up with my first two wheat sense 1 from 1942 and the other from 1951. Although we didn’t find much in the way of old relics and lots of old coins we did however have a great day out detecting and created some memories.
