Where it all started

It all started with a childhood fascination. From a young age, I had this deep desire to own a metal detector. I vividly remember my older sister having one, and I couldn’t resist the temptation of sneaking off with it to embark on my own treasure-hunting adventures. As I roamed our backyard, the machine would emit a buzzing sound whenever it detected something intriguing. Naturally, I would quickly press the red button on her RadioShack metal detector, to silence it, not realizing at the time the machine was telling me to dig when it buzzed, & me, eager to continue my search without the irritating buzzing interruption, I quickly found out, if I pressed the red button down, the machine would become silent again. Lol. Today, I live for the sound of my buzzing detector. Lol

Unfortunately, my sister always caught on and reclaimed her metal detector, leaving me longing for more time with it.

Fast forward about three or 4 decades, and my interest in buried treasures was reignited. I found myself engrossed in shows like “The Curse of Oak Island,” captivated by the possibilities of uncovering hidden fortunes. Movies like “Pirates of the Caribbean” further fueled my fascination, with their thrilling narratives of pirates relentlessly pursuing treasure. More recently, I stumbled upon a captivating short film called “Pirates Gold of Adak Island,” which further deepened my passion for unearthing hidden riches.

These various influences, from childhood memories of my sister’s metal detector to the allure of treasure-hunting depicted in popular media, planted the seed of curiosity within me. The idea of embarking on my own quests to discover buried treasures became an irresistible adventure waiting to unfold. Little did I know that this initial spark of fascination would lead me down an exciting path of discovery and exploration.

At the age of 45, my love for watching treasure-hunting shows persisted, and I found myself constantly pondering what it would be like to embark on my own search for hidden treasures. The question remained: Where should I start?

It was just about a week ago when I watched the latest program featuring a team of dedicated metal detectorists scouring an island in pursuit of lost pirate gold. That was the tipping point for me. Fueled by the excitement and inspiration from the show, I made a spontaneous decision to rush out and purchase my very own metal detector. Finally, I would have the means to delve into the world of treasure hunting.

Naturally, being a novice in this field, I had no prior knowledge about metal detectors. I opted for a Canadian tire metal detector that was on sale. I didn’t want to invest a fortune in an expensive model, as I was still uncertain if this new hobby would truly captivate me. On the other hand, I didn’t want to end up with a subpar device that would hinder my efforts and potentially discourage me from pursuing the hobby further. After conducting some limited research, I settled on the Minelab Vanquish 340, which seemed to strike a balance between affordability and functionality. Little did I know at the time just how far I was willing to take this hobby, or what exactly it had in store for me.

With my newly acquired metal detector in hand, I stood at the threshold of a thrilling and unknown journey. Excitement coursed through my veins as I contemplated the possibilities that lay ahead. The time had come to put my treasure-hunting aspirations to the test, to unearth the secrets hidden beneath the surface, and to embark on my very own quest for buried treasures.

Of course, being a complete novice in this newfound hobby, I rushed to purchase a metal detector from Canadian Tire. It was important to strike a balance between cost and quality, considering my uncertainty about whether I would truly enjoy this pursuit. I didn’t want to invest in an expensive, high-end model, fearing that it might be a premature commitment. On the other hand, I was aware that choosing a subpar device could potentially discourage me from giving it a genuine effort. After some limited research, I ultimately settled on the Minelab Vanquish 340, a metal detector that promised to deliver satisfactory results without breaking the bank. I managed to snag it on sale for $279, and with taxes, it amounted to $309. It turned out to be a stroke of luck, as the very next day, the price skyrocketed to $379 plus tax.

And so, this is how my journey begins. Armed with my Minelab Vanquish 340, a mix of excitement and curiosity courses through my veins. The allure of hidden treasures beckons me forward, urging me to explore countless possibilities that lie beneath the earth’s surface. I am embarking on a path filled with mystery, anticipation, and the thrill of discovery.

As I venture into this uncharted territory, I cannot predict what lies ahead. Will I stumble upon long-lost artifacts, valuable coins, or ancient relics? Or will my adventures be filled with intriguing tales, unexpected encounters, and the joy of simply immersing myself in the process? Only time will tell.

Join me on this remarkable journey as I navigate through the world of treasure hunting, sharing my triumphs, setbacks, and everything in between. Together, let’s unravel the secrets that history has buried, and may we be inspired by the timeless allure of hidden treasures.

This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to see where this path leads me. Will I one day become a professional Detectorist?, or is there even such a thing as a professional treasure seeker lol. One thing is for sure tho. If there is such thing. I’m definitely the right man to try and figure it out.

Ok let’s delve into the history and the unknown.
